Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 – SPRINGFIELD, MO . – Walk for hunger on October 27 for the CROP Hunger Walk and help end hunger one step at a time. CROP ( Communities R esponding to O vercome P overty ) Hunger Walk will start at Mother’s Brewery and end at Mother’s in conjunction with the Springfield Food Day Celebration from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

“You can dig wells, shape international policy, stock food pantries, and provide disaster relief…..all by supporting this year’s CROP Hunger Walk,” said local walk organizer, Beth DeHaven. “ When we walk with CROP, we join hands with millions of our neighbors around the world who have to walk many miles each day to secure food and clean water – as well as with the millions who are served by our local food pantries. This year, the alliance of CROP Hunger Walk with the Springfield Food Day Celebration highlights our commitment to ‘ending hunger one step at a time’. Our steps will provide healthy, nutritious food for families in need.”

Walkers will complete a 2-mile course, beginning and ending at the Springfield Food Day Celebration, located on the grounds of Mother’s Brewery in Downtown Springfield, 215 S. Grant Avenue. Registration for the 2-mile walk will begin at 1:30 P.M. and the walk will start at 2:30 P.M.

After the walk, Food Day will kick off at 3:00 P.M. with emcee, KSPR News Anchor and Co-owner of Granolove, Joe Daues and the festivities such as entertainment from the HonkyTonk Renovators, food samples, silent auction, prizes, cooking demonstrations and much more. Food Day will offer the community a celebration of healthy and sustainable food. The event, which is held in conjunction with National Food Day is being organized by FoodCORE (Cultivating Our Regional Experience), a non-profit organization.

A food drive is also planned to help Ozarks Food Harvest (OFH) provide access to healthy eating to residents across the Ozarks. Visitors are asked to bring either fresh or canned food to the event for drop off at the OFH booth.
